The School

 There has been a school in the village for nearly 150 years; the original school was closely associated with the Rothschild family. We still use the Victorian Clock School which is on the same site as the current school buildings, erected in 1973 and subsequently extended. Our school badge reflects the history of the school. The five arrows represent the Rothschild family, and also show that we are aiming upwards and outwards, to encourage every child to achieve their personal best.

 We have approximately 362 children on roll, currently divided in to 14 classes and provide education from four years to eleven years of age. There are at present 34 staff at school. Planning, preparation and assessment time is covered by qualified teaching staff.

 We have a fully integrated Language Development Department supporting up to 10 children. For the majority of time the children are educated in the classroom, with additional support from trained teachers, teaching assistants and a speech and language therapist.

 We have an attractive site situated in the heart of the village. The substantial grounds include a separate sports field. Our school is well equipped, with a modern computer suite containing 30 computers as well as 2 wireless laptop trolleys. All classrooms are equipped with interactive whiteboards and sound field system. Currently the school is undergoing major building works. It has already benefitted from two brand new classrooms, a new library and the rearrangement of previous space to enable teaching space to be better used. During the spring and summer term of 2013 we are having our hall extended and new front entrance and offices built.


Our staff are a friendly team who work together well and are committed to raising standards whilst maintaining a broad and balanced curriculum. Curriculum planning takes place in teams. Currently these are KS1, lower KS2 and Upper KS2 teams. Members of staff manage at two curriculum areas within a team and discuss other aspects of school life. All staff run at least one club, either after school or at lunchtime. There is a weekly staff meeting for whole school development matters and a Friday morning briefing for housekeeping issues and diary dates.


Our children come mainly from the villages of Aston Clinton, Buckland and Drayton Beauchamp, which predominately consist of owner occupied houses. Children transfer at 11 to selective schools in Aylesbury or the John Colet Upper school in Wendover.

 The ability range within classes is wide. We have some very able children who need extra challenge. We also have a sizeable number of children with statements for special educational needs.

 Children at Aston Clinton are well motivated, polite and keen to please. They are always a credit to the school, whether they are out on a trip or visitors have come in to see us. The OFSTED inspection in 2009 highlighted the good relationships between the children and the staff as a whole.


We have a very active PTA called ACSA that runs events throughout the year. They have raised money for a variety of items around school including the large piece of playground equipment for the KS2 playground and the KS1 shelter and new playground equipment. There are also a number of parent voluntary helpers in school that provide additional support within the school.
